The Meaninglessness Of Life: screenwriting for the fearless
Colin McLaren is a Glasgow-based screenwriter who chiefly works in film.
Colin will talk through the creative process of writing a feature film from original idea to completion – including character creation; finding the theme; structure; building tension; point of view; adapting existing works; through to working with directors and actors.
His most recent film THE LEGEND OF BARNEY THOMSON (2015) is a blackly comic thriller directed by Robert Carlyle; starring Carlyle, Emma Thomson, Ray Winstone and Tom Courtenay. It won the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy plus Best Actress and Best Film Scottish BAFTAS.
Previous works include DONKEYS, winner of Best Actor and Best Film Scottish BAFTAS and HOME which won best short film BAFTA.
He is currently developing three series for television set in a dystopian future America, present day Glasgow and 18th Century Europe respectively.
He is also about to start work on a feature film based on the little known Nazi invasion of East Lothian, where Colin comes from. (East Lothian, not the Nazi invasion).
