Henry Coombes is a Glasgow-based artist, who was most recently lauded at the Glasgow International Festival for his work I Am The Architect.
Coombes is currently in the NE, developing his work with SSW on the Natural Bennachie project. This work will be based on Bennachie for a six-month period which started in June, and works closely with the recent history of the ‘Colony’. The Colony was a name given to the crofters who took up residence on the Bennachie common land in the 1800’s, and were then ejected after the Division of the Comonty in 1859. Coombes will be exploring how this history, along with the strong mythology and imagery Bennachie inspires, creates an emotional relationship between the people and the land. The work created will be shown at CCA, Glasgow in November, and will be exhibited internationally in 2014.
