Sophie graduated from Gray’s School of Art, Fine Art, Painting in 2010. Since leaving art school Sophie has continued her artistic practice in Florence, Italy and in Aberdeen. Over the last two years she has participated in various group shows in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. Outside of the studio Sophie works for Arts Development, Aberdeen City Council and Grampian Hospitals Arts Trust as a freelance Arts Tutor.
In this talk Sophie will be discussing her interests, inspiration and experience of making and exhibiting work whilst studying at Gray’s and in the subsequent two years since graduating. The world does go on for artists after graduation and she will endeavour to describe to you how she has survived.
“My work centres on the experience and act of painting itself. When left alone with a paint brush and surface to work upon, abstract imagery and consequences occur. I begin a painting with no planning or reference to work from; creation of an image is then a process of discovery, decision making, setbacks, erasure and consequently resolution.”
